Oliver Lake is a gorgeous little alpine lake with a remarkable feature. Ancient larch trees, contorted by the heavy Alpine snow, grow on the rock scree of the East side of Oliver lake. The Larch in this photograph is the largest of them all. Even though the tree has been dead for many years, the wood is so tough, that year after year it survives the enormous snow loads found at that altitude. This tree was surely inspired by the drawings of Dr Seuss
I think of the East Shore of Oliver Lake as the entrance to the Stone Masons paradise.
